I have a\ndecade of experience in design and music production and was approached by a\ncrypto-specific design house called Yung Crypto Media to join their roster as\nan artist\/creative director. The\nLysergic Labs crew approached my employer about handling the creative direction\nfor shroomz (and then kept us on board for Acidheadz) and it was pretty much an\nimmediate yes. The first order of business\nwas to create a really high quality drop that stood out from a crowded space\nand so we created shroomz – which is a 3D-animated nft with custom music. We wanted to do something different than all\nthe static PFP drops that were coming out and so doing 3D animation and having\nmusicians compose custom music seemed like a really fun way to do it and it\nseems to have resonated with people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Acidheadz\nis similar except the animation is way more intricate and the music is much\nmore high quality and just better imo. \nWe also synced the animation with the music, so it looks really\npro! The point here is to create another\nreally high quality drop that can be minted by burning shroomz. This is the krux of the deflationary aspect\nof shroomz. Shroomz holders can burn\nshroomz to mint new drops at a significant discount to the ether mint\nprice. You can mint an Acidheadz for\n0.69 eth…or by burning one shroomz! <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPhase\nThree\u201d of the shroomz roadmap is ShroomDAO where holders will get to decide on\nthe direction and roadmap of the project including some specifics on the future\nutility of Acidheadz as well as design of future Lysergic Labs drops. It is our\ngoal to have a very engaged community that can actually dictate the direction\nof the project to a large degree. \nBasically, we want to give our community access to all the artists,\nmusicians, and devs we have at our disposal and let them decide what we\ndo. This is a design house that\ncaters to the crypto space. They work\nwith teams to design tokens and NFTs, do branding work, build websites,\nrepresent artists and act as a management company, etc. When Lysergic Labs was just starting out,\nthey approached Yung Crypto Media with an idea and a small team. Yung Crypto Media then worked within its\nroster of artists, coders, musicians, etc. to fill out the team and get things\nstarted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first\nthing they set up was assigning me as creative director and linked me up with\nthe very first dev, called Shiitake. We\nset about getting the artwork\/music and python development together so that we\ncould randomly generate these NFTs from a pool of attributes. I went after some amazing artists and\nmusicians that produced the incredible content for these drops. Could not be prouder of the work that they\ndid. We love our artists!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Next, they\nsorted us with a beast of a blockchain dev that does all the contracts for\nus. They have written quite a few really\nsolid contracts for some pretty big projects over the years. We are basically able to come up with a basic\nidea of what we need and this dev makes it a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We also\nhave a pair of front end devs that do fantastic work. They build the websites and the web3\nintegration. They designed the beautiful\nwww.acidheadz.cool website that shows the graphical display of the shroomz in\nyour wallet. They made it so that the\nburn process is super efficient, easy to use, and looks really slick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then we\nhave a marketing and promotional team that makes sure people know what we are\nup to. They get the word out so that we\nare able to be successful with our drops. \nIn fact, they set this AMA up for me! \nThey are also responsible for a lot of the partnerships we have with\nsome big influencers as well as designing all the amazing graphics, videos,\netc. that you see in our announcements and on our socials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The last\npiece of the puzzle is the advisors and the partners we have on board. We\ntell him what sort of vibe we want in these drops and he makes it happen. For acidheadz he hooked it up with some big\nnames – people like Octave Cat, Beard-o-Bees, Leo P, and Clay Sears (who is the\ntouring guitarist for huge acts like Jay-Z and Janet Jackson) – to collaborate\non the music. Musical collaborations\nwith established artists is something we are pursuing pretty aggressively for\nfuture releases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Shroomz\ncontained 50 custom tunes. 49 were\ncomposed specifically for the project and one was licensed by one of my\nfavorite drum and bass producers called Technical Itch. It’s BRUTAL!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Acidheadz\ncontains 21 custom tunes. All composed\njust for this project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We believe\nthat music will become a huge part of the NFT space in the near future. Can shroomz holders decide which\nartist to choose? After minting NFTs, can users sell them on any NFT\nmarketplace? What is the procedure of making money with these NFTs? Is there a\nspecial reason to choose the theme of rare NFT artwork from legendary artists?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Paul StametsHat: <\/strong>So all the artists we work with are paid an\nupfront fee for their work as well as receive royalties on secondary market\nsales. This is something that a lot of\nprojects don’t do, but it is important to us to make sure we pay our artists\nwell! Nothing we release will ever be\ndone without a fair and well-paying deal with the artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These drops\nwill be exclusive and have limited amounts available. Acidheadz is the first and there are only\n2,690 in total. We plan on doing some\nthat are even more rare…just a handful available. We all know the value of scarcity and this is\npart of what adds value to the drops. \nSo, while not every shroomz holder will be able to get into every drop,\nthere will be several drops over time so holders will have many chances to get\ninto one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For now, we\nchoose artists that we are fans of and that do incredible work. Since we are not doing the typical 2D, static\njpeg we require a great deal of computing power. 800m possible combinations for shroomz and\nseveral BILLION for acidheadz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n what we do\nis break down attributes and accessories into different categories and then use\na custom python script to randomly select from these categories to assemble\ncompletely unique NFTs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We found\nout VERY quickly that your basic desktop, even one that is super spec’d out –\ncould only make about 1 per minute. So,\nwe needed to rent AWS computing power. \nIt took about 390 CPUs with 800 GB RAM for shroomz and 360 CPUs with 720\nGB RAM for acidheadz. Even with this\npower it took about 8h to render all of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is also\ntricky to load all of this data onto OpenSea…as we found out with\nshroomz. So\nthe DAO controls all of the decision making on the details necessary to\nimplement the overall plan.
